The private aeroplane pilot license, or PPL(A), lets you enjoy flying aircraft as pilot in command for non-commercial purposes. So you'll be able to fly with family and friends and enjoy the pleasure of flying freely, or rent an aeroplane on your holidays. The course is divided into a theory part of about 100 hours of training and a minimum of 45 hours of practical flight training. At the end of the theory part you'll take a theory exam covering 9 subjects, and once the practical part is complete, a practical exam with an examiner. Once you pass both exams, you can apply for the issue of your license.
PilotSchool will give you all the theory training you need to pass the theory exam. Unlike a traditional school, we are a DTO approved by AESA to deliver the course remotely, so you can progress faster, without wasting time travelling to the school, and organize your time at your own pace.
In total there are 9 subjects and roughly 110 hours. You'll do the training online through our purpose-built platform, which keeps thorough track of your progress across the subjects and the follow-up and progress tests. This tracking is monitored by our instructors, who step in whenever needed. In addition, at any time you can use the tools available in the app to talk to your instructor to ask questions and resolve doubts.
Not at all. Behind PilotSchool is the experience of PPLONLINE and its founders, who in 2018 — faced with the training problems they had been seeing in schools (some of them had spent more than 20 years training future pilots) — launched PPLONLINE with a platform built completely from scratch (not MOODLE or similar generic apps) that has become a success in these 4 years. On our platform more than 100 students train each year, and the statistics show that the failure rate has dropped considerably. So no, don't be afraid, because you'll receive higher-quality training than what schools offer in person.
You can take the theory exam at SENASA, the public body appointed by AESA in Spain to run pilot theory exams. Its headquarters are currently in Madrid, and at certain times throughout the year they open sessions in Barcelona and other locations. In addition, we offer the chance to take your exam with other organizations we have agreements with, both in Spain and in other countries (check availability).
Well, the answer is simple: whatever you decide, because the platform adapts to your progress. We have cases of students who completed the theory training in 1 month due to specific needs. But on average it takes between 4 and 6 months to complete the theory phase. On our side, to make the course more affordable, we have set a maximum period of 6 months, which can then be extended month by month with a very small monthly fee. It's a way to lower the price for the majority of you who will finish the course in less than 6 months, to establish a commitment and also to encourage you to finish within a reasonable time.
That's the flexibility and advantage of doing it online. Besides the lower cost, you can then do the practical part at whatever school you want in Spain or abroad, as long as it's EASA-approved, of course. With the official exam certificate we give you when you pass the exams, you can go to the school of your choice and enrol in the flight phase, being able to start flying that very same day — that simple and without wasting time. And of course, if you need help deciding on a school, we can help you, as we have agreements with dozens of schools in Spain.
We understand, and it's completely reasonable. It's an important decision in your life that involves a considerable cost, and aviation legislation is complex, but don't be afraid — the PilotSchool team has been training pilots for more than 20 years and we can help you make the best decision.
